Bill De Blasio is the new Mayor of New York City. His wife is Chirline McCroy. They have been married since 1994 and have two children, shown above. She is an interesting woman on her own, an author and poet.
In the 1970s she came out as a gay black woman and a feminist. I remember the 1970s as an interesting time; traditional values were changing. People seen as "different" were speaking out. This first family in New York is, in a way, a result of those times. I find them very interesting. It will be interesting to see how his influence on New York City will change from Michael Bloomberg's.

I'm really behind the times here in Australia. I thought the Mayor of New York was still Rudy Giuliani but he hasn't been for a long time evidently. I guess my confusion stems from the fact of him running for Governor or Senator of New York last year.
I've not heard of this family at all.
I had not heard of them either, before the recent mayoral race. Before this, Michael Bloomberg was mayor for three terms. Bloomberg is a billionaire. He was well known for banning the sale of sugary drinks over the size of 16 ounces, and for his strong stance in favor of gun control.
De Blasio is a progressive. One of his issues is to ban horse-drawn carriages in the city, as they are thought to be cruel for the horses.
