As I have said many times, we have a little colony of feral cats in back of our house. Over the years I have looked for solutions to get them through the cold winter months. First, I bought a couple of those igloo houses meant for dogs and put them on the deck. There's a picture of a kitty sleeping in one above.
We have food dishes and water bowls on the deck, too. The cats come and drink a lot of water. The problem is, it's below freezing outside now and the water kept freezing. We would look out there and see the kitties trying to paw through the ice. I thought to myself there has to be a better way than going out several times a day to replace the ice with fresh water. I thought: "What if there were such a thing as a heated water bowl?" So I looked it up on Google. Well, of course there was such a thing, I just never thought about it before. They use them on farms all the time. So, I went on Amazon and bought one.
It works! For the last couple of days it's been well below freezing here, and and water doesn't freeze. The kitties love it. Here is the proof:
