Here's How I Make A Blueberry Smoothie

I often have a blueberry smoothie for breakfast.  Sometimes I have one for lunch, or for a snack.  When I first thought of making a smoothie, I had no idea how.  I looked at a couple of recipes and got the general idea.  Then I needed something to make it in.  I decided to buy a Ninja.  It's inexpensive and easy to use.  I experimented a little, and this is what I came up with.

First I get the Ninja out.  Actually it just sits on the counter because I use it so often.

I make sure the blades are in place.  It's aggravating to get everything in, then realize you forgot to put the blades in.  I've done it on a sleepy morning or two.

Then I put in several ice cubes:

Next, a heaping cup of blueberries:
A 6-ounce container of Greek yogurt:

On top of that, a scoop of protein powder:

About a cup of milk:

Sometimes I use 1% milk, sometimes almond milk.  It depends on what you have and what you like.

Next, a splash of cherry juice for sweetness (and I hear it's good for you too).

Finally, I put the top on the Ninja, plug it in and press the top to make it go.  I let it spin for about a minute, then usually another 30 seconds just to make sure all the ice cubes are chopped up.

This is enough for two glasses because my husband usually wants one, too.  If I'm making one just for myself, I just use half as much as everything.  I drink it right away because the longer it sits the thicker it gets.  I think that's because of the protein powder.

It's really, really good (you need the sweetness of the cherry concentrate, I think).  It's also healthy and filling.

Protein powder and cherry concentrate are items I'm unfamiliar with here - looks like they would really add something special to the smoothie. I commented earlier but it didn't take unfortunately...my other comment mentioned how delicious and healthy it looked!

Protein powder is all the rage here. It comes in different flavors and is made of whey. I like the "plain and simple". I bought some chocolate flavored but haven't tried it yet.

It is indeed delicious and healthy!

Sounds wonderful - I wondered about making it with strawberries, adding a splash of coconut milk too?
