The Anderson Ferry

The Anderson Ferry is one of my favorite things about this area where I live.  It crosses the Ohio River from Hebron, Kentucky to Cincinnati, Ohio.  The ride takes only ten minutes.  The ferry runs every day of the year except Christmas.  It has been running continuously since 1817, and it is a national historic landmark.

The entrance to the ferry is along River Road, which is three miles south of the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport in Hebron, Kentucky.  Many people are surprised to find out that the Cincinnati Airport is in Kentucky.

The Anderson Ferry is privately owned and operated by the Anderson family.  They have three ferries: Boone 7, Little Boone and Deborah A.  (Hebron is located in Boone County, Kentucky.)

I enjoyed seeing your ferries. Husband and I taught in South Australian River Murray towns in the country and there were ferries that look just like this. We knew the ferry operator very well. He said it was amazing who he used to ferry from one side to the other in the wee small hours of the morning, and why! We never questioned him more, not wanting to buy into the small town mentality of knowing everyone's business.
I guess its not exactly small towns though, that you have featured here Judy.

Well, it's a very small town on the Kentucky side but a larger town on the Ohio side. The location on the Kentucky side is so rural that you might not find it unless you know it's there.

Good for you not wanting to get involved in the small town mentality.

I've always wanted to live on an island in Washington state and take a ferry to work every day.
