Antiquing in Kentucky

On Sunday we went to the Burlington County Antique Show. It's held only one Sunday a month, and this was the first one for this year. It was a pretty spring day, nice to walk around outside and browse.

Politics = Insanity

I am boycotting politics! I can't take it any more. "Mommy Wars"; Birtherism; "Socialist"; "Communist"; Obamacare; Romneycare; 99% vs. 1%; tea party; Etch-a-Sketch!

It's ALL spin! I don't believe any of it anymore. I hate labels (see all the above). Labels obviate intelligent discussion. No one is sharing ideas; everyone just throws epithets and names at each other. I've heard it all before and it will never stop. It makes me want to move to another country, but it's probably the same wherever you go... the "us vs. them" mentality. It all comes down to power, religion and money. Greed and corruption.

There are so many people who are sincere, who want to help solve real problems, who are empathetic and compassionate. I want to see stories about them. None of these people are politicians. I'm tired of hearing from and about politicians. I'm tired of hearing about celebrities and how many millions their homes cost and how many times they have been divorced and what they are wearing this season. REAL PEOPLE are out there; they are the ones I care about. I find many of them writing on blogs. People who care about animals, who care about their children, who care about their communities. Those are my people.

On Hold

I feel like my life is "on hold" at the moment. There are so many things I want to do, but there are other things that must be done first. I want to be on a beach, to float in water and feel weightless, surrounded by palm trees. We have plans to travel in November, but that is SO far away! I want my life to change, but change comes very slowly.

Poltergeists?

When I was a kid, my dad told us about poltergeists. He said they could play tricks and move things around. Sometimes I wonder if I have them in my house. We have a ceiling fan that comes on by itself in the middle of the night. I used to have one of those lamps that turns on when you just touch it; it used to come on by itself when no one was in the room. We used to live in a house that had one of those big electrical towers in the back. Lots of crazy things happened there. One night the T.V. in the bedroom came on by itself. I was alone because my husband was on a business trip, and I couldn't sleep the rest of the night. Also, in that house, sometimes when I turned the microwave on the garage door would open.

My most common problem, though, is things disappearing in my house. It seems that everyday I spend time just looking for something. As soon as I find it, something else turns up missing. A few months ago, my husbands key ring (car keys, house keys, mailbox keys.. all of them) went missing. We looked everywhere but never found them. We had to change the locks on our house because we didn't know whatever happened to those keys.

Today I looked all over the house for my stapler. How many places could a stapler be? When we moved out of our old house we had all the boxes packed but I never found the beater for my big Kitchen Aid mixer. It was always in the cupboard with the mixer, but when I went to pack it the beater was just gone. Sometimes I wonder if I should be hearing Twilight Zone music.

Magical Places and Things

Does anyone know what this is? Where it is?

I was reading a novel this morning. One of the characters in the novel spoke about having a house near this place. I was curious, so I googled it. Among the images of the place I found this photo. It intrigued me, so I looked further to see what it was. I wondered if anyone has ever seen it, or knows what it is.

I've had a bad case of ennui for the past week or so, and wanted to try something different. Please tell me what you think.

First Photos

My family is coming to my house to have Easter dinner on Sunday. The first photo is the console table in the entry way.

For dinner, I have set two tables; one in the dining room and one in the breakfast area.

They don't look like much now, do they? That's because I have to cover them with sheets so the cats can't jump up and explore them! If you know cats, you know they always have to inspect everything.

I will take more photos when the covers come off. Once people start coming in, the cats will run and hide, so the tables will be safe.
