Well, They Got Me Again!

Last week, after I watched "Lost" I was turned off. It was dark. Some of the characters were "undead" and looked like zombies. That's not my cup of tea. I had always loved the show because of the characters. The way they were written; they way they were developed. There wasn't much of that evident in last week's episode.

This week was just the opposite. It was totally character-driven, and it was even heart-warming. It revolved around Ben. Ben is played brilliantly by Michael Emerson, who won an Emmy for the role.

Ben has always been a character that we loved to hate. He claimed to be "one of the good guys", but he was consistently manipulative, deceptive, and double-crossing. He was an enigma from the very beginning, when he first appeared claiming a false identity.

Last night showed a hint of Ben's redemption. He forgave and was forgiven, and the acting was just amazing. I have no idea what the future brings for the character of Benjamin Linus. But I am watching again. As long as Michael Emerson is on the screen, I will be watching.

Things I Can't Say

I will come back. Right now I am processing how to mentally handle a situation that I have no power to change. Remember the Serenity Prayer? It says, "God grant me serenity to accept the things I can not change; courage to change the things I can; the wisdom to know the difference". Right now I am struggling with the first part... trying to accept things I have no power to change.

It involves money, and someone who seems to think that money grows on trees. This is weighing heavily on my mind. I am trying to deal with it gracefully. But I worry about retirement. At the time we should be preparing for it, I see it slipping away...

I Feel Like This

I love this photo. It expresses how I feel. My last three posts and not one comment. I guess no one is reading here any more. I will stay away for a while.

Where Is He Today?

President Obama is speaking in the Philadelphia area today, at Arcadia University. I am waiting to watch it on C-Span. Arcadia is in Glenside, Pennsylvania, which is in Montgomery County. We used to live there, and I miss the area very much.

Two of our very best friends still live there. The husband is a professor at Arcadia, and he is leading the Pledge of Allegiance at the Arcadia event this morning. He will also be signing the words to the Pledge. Our friends are very involved in the deaf community because they have a son who was born deaf. He graduated from Galluadet University in Washington, D.C. I miss our friends and our community there.

I was proud to live in the Philadelphia area. There are great people there. We have good friends there. We had a good life there. We moved here to be closer to our families. I wish we could live in an area where we have both. Our friends are there this morning, hearing President Obama speak. I wish I were there with them.

Easter Baskets

Easter baskets lined up on top of my china cabinet. I don't want my kitties to get into them!

Speaking of kitties:

Tinkerbell sits for hours, looking out through the sheer curtain. She is looking for birds, and she thinks they can't see her if she is sitting behind the curtain.

This is why I call Tiger my "zen kitty":

Things Are Busy Around Here

I feel bad that I have neglected my blog for so many days. I have been helping out with my nieces... we had them at our house last night. They wanted to watch television. They love a show called "I Carly". It's awful! Its pace is frenetic and its music is loud. The kids on it are smart alecks and call each other "turds". I can't believe Disney Channel puts it on the air. I fear for the ideas my nieces are getting from these programs. Do I sound like an old "fuddy-duddy" yet?

We have also been preparing our house to host a crowd on Easter. That involves bringing up extra tables and chairs from the basement, and moving furniture around. I also had to clean out my pantry to accommodate the extra food. I put together six Easter baskets (minus the candy, which I will add at the last minute). I had to put them up high, on top of my china cabinet so the cats won't get into them while we are in Italy.

Speaking of Italy, I am also in full-panic packing mode. I don't like to take a lot of luggage. No matter where I am going or for how long, I try to take just one small rolling suitcase and one smallish carry-on bag. That means a lot of agonizing over what to take and what to leave at home. When you are young, you can just throw your sneakers, shorts, and a sweatshirt in a bag and go. When you get older, you need all your lotions, potions, pills and ointments. I have to keep reminding myself I can probably buy most of those things where I am going if I need them. Then, for the 8 or 9 hour flight, I want books, pillows, headphones and emergency food. Oh, and a flashlight! I always take a flashlight since the time I got stuck on an elevator and there were no lights. It's much nicer if you can sit there and read while waiting to be rescued.

Anyway, that's all that has been on my mind this past week. Now it's the weekend and we are planning to go see a movie. So I can forget about Easter and packing for an hour or so!

I Don't Know What To Say Now

I wrote a post about "Lost". Then I deleted it. I was so invested in the show. I really liked the characters. I was looking forward to the last season.

Now I don't know what to think. The sixth and last season began in February. With each new episode, I felt a sinking feeling. But I kept watching, hoping the next one would be better. But that hasn't happened. After tonight, I'm not sure I will ever watch it again. The characters are being turned into zombies. The story line has gone far, far afield. I believe this is what is known as "jumping the shark". I guess you could say I am disappointed and disillusioned. Oh well, it was good for five seasons.
