Catching the Kitties

Remember the four feral kitties we've been feeding?

Yes, this four…

Last night and this morning, we managed to catch all four of them… one at a time.

Transporting from the trap to the carrier:

Then we took all four to the vet.  They are going to be spayed (one is a female) and neutered (three are male) and have all the necessary shots, etc.

What are we going to do with them after they are neutered and vaccinated?  We haven't decided.  We will see how they react to being around people.  If they can be socialized we will try to have them adopted.  If not, we will return them outside to their little colony.  Now we have to catch their mother so we don't get another batch of kittens!

Update:  We have now caught the mother cat and will have her spayed tomorrow.  Also, the vet called to let us know the kittens have all tested negative for disease and are healthy.  They are receiving all of their vaccines.

  1. They're so sweet - how did they act being caught, then handled?
I'm guessing the girl is the tri-colored kitty?
You're the best, taking care of them.
Hope things turn out well for all of them,
    Mary

  2. They look like they are doing well. I thought they would look more upset in the cages but they just look bewildered - the situation must be so confusing for the little dears. We humans and our actions must be a complete mystery to them but it's all for the best.

  4. Thank you all for your interest in these kittens. Yes, the try-colored one (calico) is a female; the others are male.
Two of them (the white with black spots) and the orange colored one were easy to handle and let us pet them. The other two were not as docile, according to the vet, who called to tell us how they are doing. We might adopt the more docile ones if we can acclimate our indoor kitties to new ones.
And there is an update… we just now caught the mama cat and she will go to be spayed tomorrow. We are very relieved because we suspect she has gone into heat again and a couple of toms have been hanging around.

  5. Pam, I know what you mean. I wish I could explain to them that we are helping them. It is for the best, but they have no idea. I love your description of them as the little dears… they really are.

  6. Judy, I am always in awe of how much you care for these little ferals - care in the best sense of the word. They aren't always the most rewarding, as I know only too well, and make demands on one's altruism! I do hope these pretty little youngsters can all be adopted, and look forward to your updates.
