It was a sad day today, remembering fifty years ago when President Kennedy died. There was a somber feel about this Friday; it was cloudy and grey outside. The more I thought about it, my sadness began to turn to anger… anger that a person can take another person's life with a gun. It's just too easy. To destroy a life, to destroy a family, it's just too easy.
Anyway, I was trying to think of a way to lift my mood. This was my answer. To turn to the creatures in my life that are innocent, that depend on me for food and shelter. They lift my mood and help the sadness and the anger be forgotten.
I think you are right. Whether one believes in God or not, I think such little creatures are "God's representatives on earth", and how we treat them says so much about how the rest of mankind should treat others.
ReplyDeleteThe veg artist says it so very well.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, our fur friends do offer an antidote. My kitty got lots of pets yesterday too. Memories of that terrible day - it was the day of my junior class trip to NYC. A sad, silent trip home, I remember.
Mary
Artist, I have often had those same thoughts… I believe we "higher beings" are meant to take care of the earth and its creatures. We aren't always doing a very good job of it. I also think they have a lot to teach us.
ReplyDeleteMary, I was in senior English class that day. The silence going home was a precursor to the silence going home from work on 9/11/01.
Such a big day in history along with 9/11. When tragedy strikes our animals help us so much just by being there. Such lovely photos Judy - thanks for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteI am always happy to share photos of my kitties, Pam. I can't imagine life without them!
