Wake Me When It's Over

I am usually a "news junkie".  I read the newspapers.  I watch TV news.  I read about it on the internet.  I take pride in being an informed citizen and voter.  However, I can't take it anymore!  Our Congress reminds me of little kids arguing and pointing fingers:  "he started it!"  "No, he started it" and on and on and on.

It's too disgusting, too frightening, too nerve wracking to follow what is going on in Washington D.C.  It makes me worry about our future.  It makes me stress out too much.  It puts me in a bad mood and raises my blood pressure.

So I am boycotting the news.  I'm going to focus on other things.  I'm going to declutter and organize, talk to friends, do some sewing and quilting, try out new recipes, walk on the treadmill, walk outside, read novels.  Maybe I will take up painting.  My life is not going to be affected by the trials and tribulations going on in our government.

Someone, wake me when it's over!

  1. By far the best course of action! I keep up with things too, to a point. The point being when I remember, yet again, that what I think actually matters very little!

Actually, I have a theory that the entanglements are so complicated that no one man or parliament/administration can get anywhere near decent solutions.
Idealistic men and women go into politics to make a difference, but it's only when they reach authority that they really find out what a mess they are inheriting. It's a bit like wallpapering - they can't manage to strip away the lot, so they paper over, and it just gets lumpier each time.

  2. I like your analogy Judy - we have seen the ads here about the 'child crying tantrum'. The situation there is well-publicized here because if things get too out of hand, and the U.S. economy is involved ultimately, our economy gets dragged into it also.
To take your analogy further, the petulant children who are fighting then turn and take away the toys (paychecks) of the children who were playing as they should, with the words "Don't cry, we need these toys - we'll give them back later!".
Watching with interest, but like you, not really wanting to!

  3. I'm with you, Judy. Sometimes, for your own sanity, you have to stop watching the news too frequently.
The veg artist sums it up very well, I think. And it is such a potentially world wide issue as Pam notes. Awful. And a huge embarrassment.

PS - I feel like the little kitten in your post photo.

  5. Artist, I agree about beginning with idealism to no avail. It's sad.

Pam, I know, it's likely to affect us all. All we can do is watch (or not) and can't do a thing about it.

Mary, I feel like the kitty too, just shutting it all out!

Terri, I agree, there is only so much a person can take.
