End of Summer, End of Birthday Season

Labor Day weekend, the end of summer.  In my family, it's also the end of the Birthday Season.  On Sunday we celebrated my sister's birthday, which caps off an entire summer of birthdays.  Here are some of the photos I took of my family:

On the left, my sister, the "birthday girl".  On the right, her daughter, Erin.

My mom, myself (in the background) and two of my sisters.

My youngest sister (17 years younger than I am) and her husband.

Their two daughters, two of my nieces.  I have watched them grow up.  That's why we moved to Kentucky.

Their third daughter (on the left) and her cousin Emma, who is Erin's daughter.  They love getting together.  My niece and my great-niece.

Emma's little brother Parker, thumb wrestling with Uncle Mike (my husband).

Erin's two boys LOVE their Uncle Mike!

Jackson and his dad.

Emma, braiding her mom's hair (sorry Emma is blurry, I guess she was moving).

Emma is a bit clearer here, but Erin's face is partly hidden (it's not easy taking candid photos).

While the boys were thumb wrestling with Uncle Mike, Sarah was arm wrestling with her dad.

Molly, laughing with her Mom.

Cousins, having fun together...

After dinner, it was time for ICE CREAM for all the kids...

As we were leaving, I noticed this drawing that Jackson had made.  I asked him, "what is it?"  Jackson:  "a robot".  I asked, "What's the thing on the left?".  Jackson:  "the remote control".  Kids are amazing!

  1. This is such a lovely post, and for me, very touching - I have no family members or young children near enough to visit easily,. How lucky you all are!

  3. I come from a large family with many cousins - at least 20+ on my mother's side, and many second cousins as well. I am also a youngest child, and became an aunt when I was 8. I am now a great-aunt to quite a few. I dread to think how many children all my cousins have between them!

  4. Thank you all for your sweet comments. We moved from Philadelphia to Kentucky to be closer to family, and this is the result. We used to fly in for occasional visits and I sent the girls gifts by mail. We have seen them grow up during the last seven years. After we moved here my youngest niece, Molly said "Aunt Judy, we hardly knew who you were before you moved here!"

Since I never had children of my own, they mean a lot to me.

Artist, my dad was an only child and my mom had two brothers but one was killed in the Korean war, so she had only one sibling with children. I didn't have many cousins as I grew up as a result.
