I looked at examples of colors for the front door. What do you like? Not like?
Bright Red
Barn Red
Darker Blue
Colonial Blue
Black
Dark Grey
Light Green
The Current White
I also saw dark green, yellow, and purple but ruled them out. The bright red is a little extroverted for me, but I like the barn red. I also like the dark grey, but maybe it would be too subdued. Please give me some feedback. Thanks!
I kinda like the bright red.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little afraid of it.
ReplyDeleteJudy can you get the small colour swatches of all the colours you've suggested and then stand right back in the distance outside, holding them up 'til it actually fills the door space, if you know what I mean. I always use this technique - husband and daughter call it my 'squinty eye' effect. I use anything at hand actually, coloured pencils, coloured paper, anything with the colours I'm intending to use.
ReplyDelete...also purple is too strong, a much softer violet/purple maybe with big pots of yellow flowers either side...or the soft sage green colour to pick up and accentuate your strong line of border plants.
ReplyDeleteBet you wished you'd never asked, but I love stuff like this - and guess if you don't like your final choice you can just paint over it again!
I like your ideas, Pam. I am going to try the swatches and do the "squinty eye" thing... I've done that before too! You are opening my eyes to new possibilities as well. I can tell you like stuff like this.
ReplyDeleteI'd go for the barn red, myself - but it's such a personal thing, and you're going to be the one stepping through it every day!
ReplyDeleteJust remember, it's only paint, and if you don't like it, you don't have to live with it!
I'll always opt for blue doors. Blue creates a relaxing, homey and soothing effect that no other colors can give. Though it's not as cheerful as red, still, this color can stand out on its own character. What I like about blue is that this it is not overpowering, which means it can go along well other colors without fearing that it might destroy the exterior design.

All of these colors look great to me. I think what needs to be put into consideration is whether you want to provide a complement or a contrast to your home's exterior so you can make a choice. -Antonia @ A & B Siding and Roofing
ReplyDeleteHi, Judy! It’s been almost six months, and I wonder if you have already picked a new color for your front door. Choosing the right color can really be daunting sometimes. Well, you just have to trust your intuition. Choose the one that you think would definitely give your front door a positive vibe!
