Our Feral Cats
This is "Big Blackie". He's one of the feral cats we have "adopted". By adopting, I mean we have trapped them, had them spayed/neutered and released them back outdoors. They now live all around us and we feed them and provide outdoor shelter on our deck. Big Blackie is very friendly and lets us pet him when he comes to the door. The others will run up to the door when they see us coming, but back off if we try to touch them.
These are the "little black kitties". We adopted their littermate; actually she "adopted" us, making it clear that she wanted to live inside with us. We named her "Munchkin" and she looks identical to these two.
As you can see, they seem to be very comfortable on our deck. In fact, you might say they have taken it over. We still go out there when the weather is nice; some of them run out into the yard and the bolder ones stay up there but keep their distance from us. The little black ones will come close if we hold treats out to them.
They are still feral cats, but I think they have become half tame. When you see these photos, how could you not want to take care of them?
They look so healthy and well-cared for - how lucky they are to have you! My two ferals live indoors with me, but are still wary and usually don't want to be handled. I regard them as highly decorative household objects that eat..... But I love them dearly.
ReplyDeleteYour ferals are lucky too, Rachel. I've seen on your blog what a wonderful home you have given them.
ReplyDeleteThey are so beautiful and so lucky to have you.
ReplyDeleteI love what you are doing for them... and feral, or not, I think they love you, too.
ReplyDeleteYou are a lovely soul!
