Sunday Drive in Kentucky
With all the rain and clouds and gloom we've been having recently, Sunday was the first nice day we've had in a while. So, we put the top down on the convertible and went for a drive.
Winding country roads in Kentucky are ideal for a leisurely drive.
Lots of barns...
Some of the barns have quilts painted on them. Our county has a group of people who paint these on barns throughout the area.
Homes with long driveways:
We're driving on River Road, following along beside the Ohio River.
If you like, you can take the Anderson Ferry across the river to Ohio. This ferry has been in business since 1817. The trip across the river takes all of five minutes.
After a while, we come to a small town. Truly towns "where if you blink you miss it".
As we drive along these roads in rural Kentucky, we occasionally come across these signs warning "Congested Area". Not sure why.
Finally we come to the small town of Ludlow, Kentucky.
This is our destination: the Ludlow-Bromley Yacht Club. You know you are there when you see the shark...
Or the rowboat:
It floats on the river. People come via the road in their cars, and via the river in their boats.
It's a fun place to hang out. You can watch the boats and barges on the river, eat and drink, and listen to the music. Oh, and watch the people.
Our friendly server:
On the road back home:
This is about as exciting as it gets here in Kentucky!

Spot Does His Thing
I Don't Speak Apple
I have an Apple iphone and a MacBook laptop. I know that my laptop connects to the internet with Safari. I know my phone connects to the internet with 3G. I need a WiFi spot to run my computer, but not my phone. (I believe that is all correct, but don't quote me.) Why can't I use 3G on my laptop so I can connect to the internet everywhere, as I can on my phone?
I know that the iphone is now available with 4G, which must be faster than 3G. But what is this (photo below)? It says "iOS 5". Does this mean 5G? For a long time I wondered what "iOS" meant. Finally I figured out that "iOS" means "internet operating system". That's fine, but why do they use a lowercase i and uppercase OS? Because it looks cool? It just confuses me. Can I run "iOS 5" on my 3G phone? I have no idea.
Or should I assume that my 3G phone can only run on 3.0 software?
I am guessing that a 4G phone runs on 4.0 software. But... what is 4.3? Is it replacing 4.2? What happened to 4.0 and 4.1? Or is the software actually called 4.3.2?
Now, my laptop... as I said, I know i uses Safari. So what is 'Leopard"?
And what is "Snow Leopard"? Am I missing out on something? And what does the "X" after "OS" mean?
Look at the list below: Cheetah, Puma, Jaguar, Panther, Tiger (and Tiger/x86!), and Leopard. Did each one make the last one obsolete, or are they all still existing somewhere out there?
I have to sinc (sync?) my iphone to my MacBook occasionally. If I have trouble and I call the Apple help line they ask me if I am using the latest operating system. What can I say? I don't even know what they all are. All I do know is that every time I get used to one system or program or application, they come out with a new version. For example, when I sign on to iphoto I get a message that there is a new iphoto available and do I want to download it? I never do, because I am afraid I won't understand the new version.
I have a picture in my mind of all these young geeks in Silicon Valley sitting around dreaming up all these new programs and all the new code words and numbers to name them. I'm afraid I don't understand their language. Where do I go to learn it?

Shopping for a Wedding
We are going to a wedding in a few weeks. What to wear? I haven't been to a wedding for a number of years. What does one wear these days? Feeling a bit out of touch, I looked online for suggestions.
I know that traditionally it was taboo for a guest to wear white, in deference to the bride. However, I found this one as a suggested dress for a guest. I'm still reluctant to break the taboo.
It used to be taboo to wear black, though I understand it is being done these days.
I've seen lot of strapless dresses. Really? In church? Oh well, I don't think I could wear a strapess dress anyway.
These dresses were shown as wedding guest dresses. I don't think So! Maybe for Vegas...
To the other extreme, I think these are a bit too matronly.
Okay, this one looks just about right. I will look for something like this.
Of course, then there is still the matter of shoes...
Wish me luck!

Tuesday Mood
Some days I'm up and some days I'm down. Fortunately, today I am up.
Tuesday is my day to pick up my nieces from school. Here they are, cute girls ages 13, 11 and 9. On Tuesdays my sister calls me on her way to work to let me know what I will need to do with them after school. They have a lot of homework, so I always help them with that. Today they are working on two projects. One is to prepare a demonstration to give in front of the class. Aubrey is going to demonstrate how to make buttercream icing. I'm sure she has an ulterior motive... she gets to eat it! Molly is going to demonstrate tye-dying. Could be a little messy!
