About My Blog...

If you are new to my blog, please go back a bit into my archives. I sure was more interesting back then! In November, I blogged about a trip to Israel. In December, I blogged about a barge trip in France. Those trips took place a number of years ago, so I didn't have digital photos. In order to post them, I had to take prints to the photo finisher and copy them, one at a time, onto a CD. It was a time-consuming process.

I have many more photos from many adventures. I would love to share them, but they were all taken before the digital age. Recently, I have been reminiscing, going through those old photo albums. I can't believe the fascinating places I have been! I wish I were taking some of those trips now, so I could share them here.

I used to live in Philadelphia... I have written about that too (look back in the archives). Every day I took the train into town. Every day was an adventure. I met characters on the train and on the street. I wish I had been blogging then... so much material. Now, I live in rural Kentucky, and there is not a lot to blog about. Not much exciting has happened to me since I moved here.

As I drive around these rural roads, though, I do see a lot of scenic spaces and interesting little details. It is in those moments that I have ideas for photos, but I need a better camera to capture them. I have asked several bloggers what cameras they use to get such beautiful results. I know I have a lot to learn.

So many blogs are filled with great photos. I have a second-hand camera that my sister received free when she opened a bank account. It doesn't focus well. I miss a lot of shots because it is so slow. It doesn't have any zoom capacity. I have asked for a new camera for my birthday... I hope to be posting some lovely pictures soon!

  1. Good luck and have fun with your new camera, Judy. I hope that you can visit my blog sometime, also. I know how difficult it is to move to a new place and try to adjust. Take care <3

  4. What about a scanner too? Then you can scan and post your old photos! I sympathise though - when I think of holidays and adventures unrecorded in the pre-digital days.....

I can't believe that nothing much happens in rural Kentucky! Rural anywhere can be a seething hotbed of thrilling, weird, wonderful events and characters! Cities just push their stuff at you more obviously. Maybe getting out and about with a new camera will open it up for you in a new way?

  5. Bearette, interesting about a Panasonic Lumix. I haven't seen that one... will look into it. Thanks.

Rachel, a scanner sounds like a possibility. I have a printer that says it also scans, but I haven't tried that yet. I am such a newbie!
A seething hotbed of weird, wonderful events and characters... I love it! I am going to go out and look for them. I will break out of my dull subdivision into the real countryside. There's plenty of it around here.

  6. Judy in KY - Secret Kansas Sleuth always on the look out (with her new and tres simple & discreet camera) and seeking out all that is thrilling, weird, & wonderful in her new-ish 'hood.

I must vouch for their being lots of T,W & W in small places 'cause there's plenty o'weird and wonderful going-on in my tiny village - the big difference is - you know about "everything" and "everything" also knows about you. Perhaps you need to start hanging out at your local "genius bar".

  7. Hi Susan, SKS here. Alas, all the people at the "genius bar" are young enough to be my children. I intend to enjoy sleuthing around, though.

  8. There are tips & tools to be had at those genius bars and Hey ! those genius' are there to serve & help ... if I had an apple store nearby I'd be spendin' some time there - regardless of age difference. Happy weekend of sleuthing

  9. Judy, I know what you mean about the older photos! We are pretty limited in our travels these days. Financially as much as other things.

I took my parent's old slides from the 70s into a shop where the man digitized them all.

    It was well worth it.

I love looking at the old photos and often one just sparks an idea or goes well with a post.

I have a couple of suggestions, actually. Find a geekie student who would do it for you, too. Someone with a scanner.

We needed a new printer before my daughter's wedding and bought one with scanning capabilities. I gathered baby photos from the bride and groom and created a slide show. It was so much fun!

  10. Hi Jenn, good for you, making that slide show! It does sound like fun. I can use I-Photo to make slide shows on my laptop but wouldn't know how to project them onto a larger screen.

I like your idea of finding a friendly geek to scan my old photos. Actually, I think my twenty-something niece might be able to help me.

I have been going through many old photo albums. There are so many wonderful photos that no one ever sees. I have started putting them into collage frames so I can display them around my house.
